Renovated hallway with a new staircase

Renovations in Kent

Call 07789990629

I renovate homes across Kent, from a single room to a whole house, and that includes the structural side of it, knock throughs, new steels, new staircases and the joinery that ties it all together.

Renovation is where problems hide behind the plaster, and where 30 years in the trade and 12 years of project management earn their keep. The work goes in the right order, with the structure and the services sorted before anything is finished, so nothing has to be pulled out again.

Our work page has a hall renovation with a new staircase, an oak balustrade before and after, and a two storey extension that went with a whole house refurbishment.

How I work

  1. 01

    Consultation

We will start with an initial chat about your ideas and what you want to achieve. I will then visit your property to assess the space and discuss practical options to bring your plans to life.

  2. 02

    Planning and design

I will help refine your vision into a realistic plan, offering honest advice on materials, finishes, and timelines to make sure the renovation suits both your needs and your home.

  3. 03

    Renovation work

All renovation work is carried out with care and precision. I manage each stage personally to ensure quality, efficiency, and minimal disruption to your daily life.

  4. 04

    Finishing touches

Before the job is signed off I go through every detail with you, so nothing is left half done.

Where to start a renovation

Fix the fabric first, then the layout, then the finish. Anything that lets water in or holds the house up comes before kitchens and bathrooms, and the rooms that will be disturbed most, by new wiring, plumbing or a moved wall, are best done before the rooms you want to finish first.

Knock throughs and structural work

Opening up two rooms is one of the most common renovation jobs and one of the most misunderstood. If the wall is load bearing it needs a beam designed by a structural engineer and building regulations approval, and if it is not, it can usually come out without either. Either way it is worth knowing which before anything is priced.

Renovating older and listed houses

Older houses need a different approach. A home built before 2000 can contain asbestos, so it should be checked before anything is taken apart, and a listed building needs listed building consent for internal alterations as well as external ones.

Planning a full renovation

A full renovation is easier to live through with a clear plan. Settle the scope before work starts, keep a contingency for what turns up behind the walls, and agree the order of the rooms so part of the house stays usable throughout.

“Alex is absolutely amazing - best builder we have had. He is so helpful and knowledgeable - we give him a photo/ideas and he makes them come true. Alex works incredibly hard and his work is to a very high standard. Alex has now renovated over half our house and I cannot wait for him to finish the rest!”
